My first artist residency

This past fall, I had the incredible opportunity to embark on my first artist residency. The residency took place at Nimmo Bay Resort, nestled in the Great Bear Rainforest.

The Great Bear Rainforest has held a special place in my heart, having spent some time there when I worked in conservation, and as I transitioned into weaving more, I thought my time there had come to an end. I was at peace with that, filled with deep gratitude for the experiences I’d had there.

When the chance to return to the Great Bear Rainforest as an artist-in-residence at Nimmo Bay arose, I applied right away and was thrilled to be accepted!

Nimmo Bay is a magical place. It certainly lived up to how special I’d heard this place was. I got to work in a floating artist studio, complete with a cozy woodstove and a record player. I was there for five days and guests were able to visit me between their adventures. Their warmth and genuine curiosity about the weaving process made the experience even more special. Some guests even left with a basket and I left a mushroom foraging basket for the chefs at Nimmo for keeping me well fed.

I’ve put together a video documenting my experience and included some reflections. Stay tuned till the end to see the dreamy sauna!
